Why do we allow our children to see/view violence but we hide images of love/sex from them?

I was just thinking....and was intrigued by the idea that there are some "primitive" cultures where lovemaking is done out in the open and there is no crime, rape, etc. Yet here in our "evolved" societies crime/rape/violence etc continue.
(And just to let you know, I don't allow my kids to see sexual stuff and I also try to protect them from seeing violence as well; at some point protecting them from both becomes unavoidable anyway......and that's when we have to teach them about it)

It's an American thing that goes back to our Puritan roots. Europeans think we're crazy for being such tightwads about sex.
